An 11-year-old pit bull is being hailed a hero for saving her family's lives. The dog, named Sadie, is credited with detecting a gas leak in the basement of their Tuckahoe, New York home. Her good deed has now gone viral online, and she has won hearts all over the world.

The Tuckahoe Police Department reported on Facebook that at around 3.45 pm on Wednesday, there were calls about a dog barking on the loose on Fairview Avenue.

When officers returned Sadie to her home, they discovered an open sliding door in the backyard. Officers were walking around the house when they noticed a gas odor coming from an open basement window.

With the assistance of the Eastchester Fire Department and Con Edison, police determined that the gas leak was coming from the basement.

According to ABC News, "the dog saved the house from a potential gas explosion and gas leak."

"Sadie - Excellent work detecting danger and obtaining assistance! If we ever need a K9, you will be at the top of our list! "According to the police department's Facebook post.

Since the post went viral, it has received hundreds of comments and thousands of "likes."

"What a smart dog you have! A true hero! Tuckahoe should honor her for her amazing good work!" wrote one person in the comments section. "Good girl. She was smart to do what she did," said another.

"She is a hero," said Sadie's owner Serena Costello, adding that Sadie chewed and dug out a wooden blocker keeping the sliding door shut to run out and get help for her family. "She saved our lives."   "Watch The Video Below"
