Rescue shelters often become the refuge for abandoned dogs and cats, as they hope for the opportunity to be adopted by caring families. Sadly, not every pet is fortunate enough to find a forever home, and some are euthanized due to costly medical conditions they possess.
Undoubtedly, no dog should endure such a heartbreaking destiny. Every single one of them is endearing and deserves the chance to heal, find a loving home, and be cared for by compassionate owners who can provide them with a nurturing environment until their natural time to depart.
An endearing Beagle named Gregory was on the verge of becoming one of the unfortunate dogs scheduled for euthanasia at the animal shelter. However, his story took a turn for the better, and today we are delighted to share the uplifting outcome with you.
Gregory's rescue came at the perfect moment when Joe Kirk stepped in and saved this charming Beagle from his imminent grim fate. In a heartwarming response, Gregory reciprocated by giving Joe one of the most adorable dog hugs ever witnessed. The touching moment captured the attention of the internet, spreading love and joy far and wide.
Joe's timely intervention came to Gregory's rescue mere days before the scheduled euthanasia. If this wasn't an extraordinary turn of events orchestrated by fate, we are left contemplating what else could possibly qualify. It's important to mention that Joe, along with his wife Schenley Hutson-Kirk, co-founded a non-profit organization located near Findlay, Ohio.
The Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary is committed to finding loving homes for neglected dogs and providing lifelong sanctuary for senior and "unadoptable" dogs. Their efforts extend to assisting stray dogs as well. Ultimately, the organization, along with its dedicated staff, strives to save dogs from euthanasia by rescuing them from high-risk and kill shelters.
When Gregory realized that he was being rescued, he expressed his gratitude by embracing Joe warmly.
After successfully saving Gregory, Schenley took to her Facebook page to express her admiration for the wonderful qualities possessed by the dog. She described him as a grateful and appreciative companion, clearly aware of his newfound safety and security.
It was later discovered that Gregory had tested positive for heartworm disease, prompting immediate treatment. Schenley and Joe made a firm commitment to nurse him back to health and strength, while ensuring that he receives the love he truly deserves.
Schenley and Joe, who operate a non-profit organization, shared that they typically provide care for around 30 dogs concurrently. They offer support and love to both adoptable dogs and those residing in their sanctuary. Every rescued dog undergoes thorough examination and treatment from a veterinarian to ensure they receive the care they require.
The couple also joyfully announced that after completing his heartworm treatment, Gregory was adopted by a loving family. The adorable Beagle has now found a forever home, where he experiences a joyous life filled with love. The best part is that Gregory's new family already had a Beagle, providing him with an instant companion.
When inquired about the number of dogs they have saved, Schenley and Joe consistently respond by stating that they have "saved one more." Each dog they rescue gains the opportunity to experience love, receive proper care, and never suffer from hunger again. Each dog finds a forever home. It is this sense of fulfillment that drives their passion for this important work.
Gregory faced the risk of euthanasia due to his heartworm condition.
Joe shared that during the ride back home from the shelter, Gregory's only desire was to cuddle. This affectionate and loving dog proved to be the epitome of loyalty and companionship.
Gregory adores showering people with kisses and takes great pleasure in keeping them company. He is the type of dog who wants to be by your side whenever possible. Upon arriving at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, Gregory was merely two years old.
The shelter had planned to euthanize him due to the expenses associated with treating his heartworm disease. Fortunately, Joe discovered Gregory just in time and provided immediate treatment, ultimately saving the dog's life.
Pets can die from heartworm disease if they don’t get treatment. This is because worms that are a foot long infest the pet’s vital organs, such as the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and blood vessels. The organs can get damaged over time by the worms. The signs of heartworm disease include not wanting to eat, being tired, losing weight, having a swollen belly, coughing mildly but often, and not wanting to exercise.
Shelters have many reasons to put dogs to sleep. Some of these reasons are too many dogs, diseases that can spread, and very violent behavior.
Some people are everyday heroes who dedicate themselves to saving as many animals as possible. Schenley and Joe are such people. They created their own organization to help dogs, which they named Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary. Their actions are admirable and inspiring, even though not everyone can follow their example.
You can help and save dogs who are in need and avoid them being Euthanasia. You can volunteer at shelters and groups, inform people about adoptable pets on your social media, and share stories like this one.
The fate of a dog or a cat in a cage may depend on whether people are encouraged to visit their local shelter and adopt. As Joe and Schenley stated, “saving one more” is significant and it will better that pet’s quality of life.
So, share Gregory’s story and, maybe, you will convince someone to do what Joe did and take action! After all, who wouldn’t want to receive a snug and thankful hug from a sweet dog? Who wouldn’t want to have a caring dog in their home? They bring us so much happiness and light!
