Selina Dey has a passion for saving animals in need. She is a solo dog rescuer in Bali, Indonesia, who often encounters pups who are injured or sick. She never hesitates to help them, no matter the situation.
That's why, when she heard a cry of distress from the side of the road earlier this year, she stopped her scooter and went to investigate.
"I heard the screams from the street while driving on my scooter," Dey wrote in an Instagram Reel.
She traced the sound to a nearby ditch, where she saw a tiny, wrinkly, pink blob wagging her tail at her.
It was a little hairless puppy, who had somehow managed to crawl through the thick vegetation and onto a concrete slab. But she was too small to climb out of the ditch by herself.
"She couldn't get out, so I climbed down [to] where she was stuck," Dey wrote. "[I] picked her up and took her into my heart."
Dey gently put the puppy, who she later named Jenny, into an empty shopping bag. Jenny needed urgent care, but there was a big problem: It was Nyepi, a holiday when everything on the island shuts down.
"There was a holiday here on the island and everything shut down," Dey wrote. "No vet, pet shop or pharmacy was open, so I just did everything in my knowledge and power to save this girl."
Dey drove straight home with Jenny and used her own pet rescue supplies to treat her.
"Thankfully, I had a lot of medicine and remedies to help her and ease some of her pain," Dey wrote.
Jenny had her first of many medicated baths, and got a full checkup when the businesses reopened. Then she began her long road to recovery.
The first few weeks were hard for Jenny, who sometimes cried all night in agony. But she always felt comforted by Dey's love and care.
"[I] loved her [like] she has probably never felt before," Dey wrote. "[I] showered her in love (and medical baths)."
Gradually, Jenny started to feel better, and her personality and fur started to grow.
"She improved, and her playfulness and character came to light," Dey wrote. "I am overjoyed to say that she pulled through [and] got all her beautiful hair back."
After months of healing and growing, Jenny's appearance finally matched her inner spirit.
"She just blossomed like a little flower," Dey told The Dodo recently. "This hair that came out was basically her character coming out."
Now Jenny is living with Dey as a foster, and having the time of her life.
"She is madly in love with every other dog," Dey said. "She likes to be the star of the show."
When she's not playing with her foster siblings, Jenny loves to snuggle with Dey.
Jenny is still looking for her perfect forever home, and until then, she's enjoying all the love that Dey and her rescue family have to offer.
Dey can't wait to see Jenny find her happy ending, but for now, she's cherishing every moment with her amazing "Little Jenny."
"I can't believe how strong this beautiful soul is," Dey wrote. "I am so grateful she fought her way back to life."
