Officials in Qingbaijiang District in Chengdu are now investigating the vet, identified only as Zeng, and his assistant who are both said to be unlicensed.

According to the his customers, the pets were anaesthetised with a shot to one of their legs, and the animals would be left lying lifelessly on the side as they wait for the effects to wear off.
